This is a book by Sheikh Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri on the life of Prophet Muhammad (S). It was honoured by the World Muslim League as the first prize winner book. This is just the apt book for anyone who wishes to know the life style of the Prophet in detail.

Mercy is clemency and forbearance; mercy is the disposition to forgive or show compassion; mercy means a favor or a blessing; mercy further denotes the qualities of kindness, sympathy, generosity, and beneficence. Suffice is to say that all of these qualities were present in abundance in the character of the Prophet Muhammad (May Allah have his peace and blessings on him). He was a mercy not just to believers, but to disbelievers as well, for he would invite them to come out of darkness and into the light of true guidance. He is a favor and blessing for mankind, not just the Arabs, the people among whom he was sent, but for people of all races and colors. His staunchest enemies became his closest followers when the cloud of blind prejudice was removed from their sight and when they were able, for the very first time, to see with clarity the true nature of the Prophet’s character.

Many books have been written about the life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). In writing this book, the author had a specific objective. He used the life of the Prophet (SAW) to go onto depth about the Prophet (SAW) many historians only touched on the various aspects of his life. This book goes into detail and provides reasons and explanations for whatever took place. It is a blend of modern analysis and ancient detail. Its objective is to nurture faith, purify characters and fan the struggle to embrace the truth and be faithful to it.

From the introduction of book, ‘ Muslims assert that the Prophet Muhammad (saw), is without doubt the greatest individual in history. This is not a baseless claim. Whoever studies is biography and learns the truth about his character and personality, keeping aside all prejudices will reach this conclusion just as some impartial non-Muslims have reached this conclusion as well.’

This booklet tells in a simple way about Muhammad’s birth, youth, marriage, and prophethood. Also tells about the new era mankind entered by the advent of Islam.

(Biography of the Prophet). This book shows that people before the advent of Islam were plunged in the depths of ignorance and idolatry. They used to eat corpses, to commit abominations, to severe blood ties, to neglect duties of hospitality and neighborliness, and to use only the law of the strong. Then Allah sent the Prophet Muhammad to call them to the Oneness of Allah, and taught them not to associate anything with Him. He forbade them the worship of idols, and enjoined them to speak the truth, to be faithful to their trusts, to be merciful and to regard the rights of the neighbors as well as kith and kin, and to refrain from crimes and bloodshed.

The Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace, is the most excellent example as father and husband. He was very kind and tolerant towards his wives. They could not envisage life, without him.. He was the perfect head of family, managing many women with ease, being a lover of their hearts, an instructor of their minds, an educator of their souls, he never neglected the affairs of the nation nor compromised his duties. The Prophet’s beloved wife, Aa’isha, said of her noble husband: ‘ He always helped with the housework and would at times mend his clothes, repair his shoes and sweep the floor. He would milk, protect and feed his animals and do household chores’ Not only was he a devoted husband, he also encouraged his companions to follow his example: ‘The most perfect of the believers in faith are the best of them in morals. And the best among them are those who are best to their wives.’

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the best role model for all humankind. Among his outstanding virtues and characteristics, he was an extraordinary husband, a perfect father, and a unique grandfather. He was also a great statesman, judge, and spiritual leader. His most distinctive quality, however, was the fact that he was a blessing to all in both word and deed. He infused justice, love, and dignity in all those around him. He spread the power of brotherhood to the extent that it became exceptional in human history. Affirming that these grand virtues were bestowed on him by Allah the Almighty and that He prepared His loyal messenger to call for the true religion, is part of one’s belief. The Qur’an describes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as merciful and kind to the believers. Allah the Almighty says, {Now hath come unto you a Messenger from amongst yourselves: it grieves him that ye should perish: ardently anxious is he over you: to the Believers is he most kind and merciful.) (At-Tawbah 9:128

It is very important for anyone who wants to spread the message of Islam to study the life of the Prophet and discover how he undertook the mission of da` wah (Call to Islam). By studying his seerah (biography), we learn the lessons of patience in the face of adversity and opposition, and the readiness to sacrifice everything for the cause of Islam. In this book, Dr. as-Sibaa` ie shows us how the Prophet’s approach was gentle, yet determined and clear-cut, with no compromise on basic issues.

Mustafa as-Sibaa` ie, in the cause of Allah, was a lecturer in the University of Damascus, where he taught seerah (the Prophet’s biography). In this book, he draws on his experience in the field and combines it with his knowledge of the seerah. He takes the most important events of the seerah, summarizes them in order to offer a brief overview, then outlines the lessons to be learnt from these events.

This is an excellent introduction to both, the seerah and the principles of da` wah. It should be on the bookshelf of every Muslim who wants to call others to Allah (the Almighty).
